when i got home tonight from my business meeting with victorious, i walked into the living

room where my father was watching 10 things i hate about you.

No Joke.

this is my last week living as a 24 year old, as i turn the big 2-5 on friday.

it's gonna be a crazy one because i'm running a summer art camp this week with my dear victoria

and a bunch of snotfaced kids.

wednesday evening i'm hosting a house show with the wonderful richard laviolette & the hollow hooves, chris yang and joel elliott. should be fucking great.

friday morning i'm flying to chicago to meet my baby sis who i haven't seen in a month since she's moved the da big apple.

we are going to pitchfork music festival to see a shitload of great bands.

and thanks to the handsome men in Women,

we apparently get free food and free beer all weekend.

i'm going to try to borrow my buby's digital camera to document the trip. hopefully she'll lend it to me.

It's been just one week since we've lost the legendary sparkly gloved angel Michael Joseph Jackson.
I still can't believe it and don't know if I ever will.
Luckily we have the loyal and talented Filipino prisoners who, just days after his death, choreographed a breathtaking tribute montage in his honour. Much like their Thriller video, this is borderline dynamite.

this past week/end was the 15th annual nxne.

my sissies and i work at it every year (for the conference part) so that we can get passes to see whatever we please at night.

this year the lineup was stellar and it was definitely hard keeping up.

wednesday night i worked the door at the nxne kickoff gala party. no one played at it but i had enough drinks to get me lubricated for the Mighty Defenders show later at the Amsterdam Brewery.

Mighty Defenders consist of Arish and Mark Sultan from King Khan & BBQ

plus the fellas from the Black Lips

thursday was a busy one. worked at the conference in the morning (hungover) and then bussed back to hamilton for my pop's annual office bbq. then hopped back on the bus in time to bike up to yonge/dundas square to see black lips.

and then slowly made our way to see king khan & bbq show at the horseshoe.

it was sooo good and sooo sweaty. mark sultan's voice is golden.

after that we decided to call it in early, but not before going to 24 hour pho.

friday was supposed to rain but didn't. it was good because we went to a bbq at tim mccready's place for the launch of the long-awaited dream machzine.

i contributed two illustrations and was pretty stoked to see them in the huge 100+ page book.

During the bbq i left to go see coeur de pirate at the dakota, but it was at capacity by the time i got there and i couldn't get in, so i went back to the party. after that i biked over to yonge and dundas square to see wintersleep.

after the boys finished up, we sat around for about an hour shootin the shit, all the while missing out on the show i was meaning to catch at lee's. it might have something to do with eating these

not all motivation was lost, however, because we eventually made it to wrongbar to catch matt & kim.

and then for some reason we thought it'd be a great idea to cab it to horseshoe to drink more beer. as a result we saw a band called my shaky jane

but i have a feeling that absolutely no one remembers.

we eventually made it back to laura's and passed out.

though saturday was a very eventful day, it started out pretty slow because my first panelist, gza, of wu tang clan, was 2 hours late for his celebrity interview.

but he finally showed up and i found out that i had to introduce him and fab 5 freddy, the princess hip hop historian that interviewed him.

i was so nervous, primarily because i have terrible stage fright. but i broke the ice by the only thing i could think of, the wu hand gesture:

after the conference was over, we headed over to the pop montreal/vice bbq where we kept getting everyone's leftover drink tickets. slowly and steadily getting drunk, i got emotional when a man proposed to his girlfriend right beside me. she said yes. the ring was pretty manly, but i looked past it. i also noticed that he popped the question by SHOUTING and that she was like 3 levels hotter than him. we later found out that they weren't really engaged, and they weren't even a real couple, they acted out the proposal in order to score free champagne from the bar. pretty clever, but i felt duped.

we then headed over to whippersnapper gallery to see the wonderful julie fader.

such a babe.

then by divine right took the stage.

they have a new lineup, but they were still great.

we missed brian borcherdt to go see cold cave from philly at sneaks

too tired to really enjoy it, we went downstairs to mow down on some nachos. after getting some nourishment, we went back upstairs to see crystal antlers.

entirely exhausted, we went home an went to bed, but not before being ambushed by 7 drunk meatheads who were also staying the night at my sister's house as guests of her roommate. it reminded me why i hang out in the places i do. though it was annoying, it was also refreshing.

the next day we got up and went for brunch in liberty village for father's day to celebrate having the best dad in the world.

we then proceeded to take slash to the downtown island airport.

she moved to new york on yesterday for her internship at stylecaster.com

i already miss her a lot. now i have no one to smoke weed or watch felicity with before bed... :(

after she left i went to yonge and dundas to see gza perform. though it was too packed for me to see very well, it was still fucking awesome.

then i went to help michelle hang up some myspace posters at circa for their much music award after party. since circa is quite close to much music, mich and i decided to walk up john street a bit to check it out. we were standing right beside the stage when we heard them introduce kelly clarkson.

unfortunately she performed on the stage around the corner from us so we couldn't see, but we could hear at least. damn that girl can sing.

then we left to go see japanther at the nxne wrap up party.

they are so good, but one thing that annoyed me was that ninjasonik jumped on the stage during their set and sang every song with them. i think one or two is nice and fun, but more than that is overstaying their welcome. japanther didn't seem to mind as much as i did.

again, i was too tired to fully enjoy everything but at least i didn't fall asleep on my drive back to Htown.

so i haven't posted in over a month.

a lot happened.

sasha turned 22.

i got rejected from a job i applied for.

i got a different & better job for the summer.

i got my back pack stolen from me.

i got my wallet stolen from me.

i got my eyes tested and need glasses.

i got a bicycle for $12.50

our one day trial has quickly turned into a 3-day one.

my car is semi-permanently locked.

i had my first solo art show on friday.

i saw grizzly bear last week in toronto.

it was nothing short of outstanding.

so this post is mostly dedicated to them.

this past week went by pretty quick. it was filled with good music and bad luck.

sunday day, on my way to a meeting, i got a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt :( a hundred and ten dollar lesson that i will never forget.

sunday night sebastien grainger played the casbah which was great. he has such a good growly voice. he took his shirt off like, 2 songs into his set which i thought was pretty premature.

tuesday night ladyhawk rolled into town which is a band i always look forward to. but it's also a band that makes you conscious about what outfit you're going to wear, because if you're anywhere near the stage, you're bound to get soaked in both beer and sweat.

wednesday i went and saw hawksley workman with my dad, grandmother and sister.

it was so so good. like always.

and andrew vincent opened.

to our pleasant surprise, tavo accompanied him onstage.

just delightful.

after that we dropped by the casbah and caught some of hey rosetta! they were quite good, but i don't know where they fit in, genre-wise. and i don't think they know either.

thursday i went to the casbah to see chain and the gang and the hive dwellers. right before i left for the show, i scarfed down some homemade peanut butter noodles to provide some absorbent cushioning for the subsequent beers i was about to ingest.

when i got to the show, my friends were talking to ian svenonius, the singer of chain and the gang. he looks exactly like a vampire. but a friendly one.

as i was getting introduced to him, i asked him if he was allergic to peanuts because if he was, i didn't want to get too close to him for fear that breathing peanutbutter into his face would kill him by causing him to go into an airborne-induced anaphylactic shock. Then calvin johnson came over and of course i made sure he wasn't allergic either.

imagine i killed either ian or calvin before their set? imagine if i killed them both???? that would be TERRIBLE. anyway, turns out neither are allergic to peanuts.

calvin played with the hive dwellers, and their set was amazing. unfortunately there weren't too many people at the show to witness it, but this allowed calvin to make eye contact with every single person in the crowd, for 20 seconds at a time. it made me feel weird, but in a good way. His dance moves were outrageous and put Mike Long (who was in the front row) to shame.

when chain and the gang took the stage, they caused the 20 person-audience to dance. ian had incredible stage presence. he often jumped into the crowd to dance with us, but when he came over to me, he waved his hand in front of his face (like peeee-uuuuuu) and shouted at me: "you're going to kill me!"

When he got back on stage, he introduced his next song... He said: "I met a really nice girl tonight, but she almost killed me with her breath."

My face went crimson red, obviously. But what made me extra red was that the whole audience thought that it was bad breath that almost killed him, they didn't know he was making fun of the fact that I thought I could kill him by breathing peanut air onto him.

so embarrassing.

Last night (saturday) sash and I went and saw bell orchestre for the first time.

never before have i heard a band harmonize a french horn with a trumpet. so good.

so far today, two jehovah's witnesses came to my door. when i answered the door, i pretended that they woke me up by squinting my eyes and whispering... and so they said they'd come back. also, my cat assaulted a tiny mouse that was bleeding to death so i had to flush it :(

tomorrow we head to court to testify against an asshole who assaulted us over a year ago in toronto. i'm so nervous i'm going to puke!!!!!

SAT-UR-DAY

since we went to Israel in May on Birthright, we were invited to Birthright's SXSW bagels n' shmear/open bar party on congress which was also presented by jdub records. when we arrived, they were given out flasks at the door. it was a great start to the day.

as we mowed down on our lox and cream cheese, we watched the following bands:

girls in trouble (brooklyn)

deleon (brooklyn)

fool's gold (LA)

(they sang in hebrew which was a delight)

after about 6 to 7 drinks a piece, we stumbled toward waterloo park to catch some more bands and sun. but not before we stopped at the convention centre to check out flatstock, my poster artist wetdream. such a feast for the eyes, it's a bit overwhelming. but i did manage to walk out of there with a decision. a fucked up poster by daniel romano. it's a fucking beaut.

we carried on to waterloo and caught another set by monotonix

we quickly walked back to our house to get ready for the night portion of saturday, but we got distracted and jumped on the trampoline, I didn't know we had in the backyard, for 20 minutes...

after that we went and caught wintersleep at the rusty spur

where they opened up for echo and the bunnymen!

we got perty drunk off jello shooters there, and made friends with the most non-gay-looking gay man who just couldn't get enough of my "monica-in-the-episode-where-she-has-humidity-induced-frizz" hair. shiiiitttttttyyy.

on to the vice party we went, nice and toasted. only to find out that we had to wait in line for an hour and we missed obits by one minute :(

the party was "open bar," but apparently vice's take on open bar is lining up warm cups of juice and tequila, and leaving it on the bar for people to take at their leisure. speedy, but gross.

the only band i remember from that party was annihilation time.

they were good, but if you stand too close to the stage, be prepared to get soaked with beer, or bottled (in lo's case)

a dance party followed where i met my male, gay counterpart on the dancefloor.

we hit it off pretty well.

the night ended shortly thereafter, but not before bumping into Joseph Gordon Levitt for a second time on the street, hailing a cab, after picking up a chick.

This time, instead of pretending we didn't know who he was, we caved and told him how much we loved him.

Laura even told him that her favourite line in 10 things i hate about you is when he says:

"i learned french for you"

a great way to end the evening...

on our way downtown we stopped at this hole-in-the-wall bbq joint to have "breakfast."

come to think of it, i have no idea what our vegetarian 8-pack member ate that day. (sowwy snack).
after that hearty meal, we walked to sixth and red river to emo's to try and get into Windish Agency & Pitchfork's crazy good line-up of a showcase. And after waiting for only two minutes we were in, which was sweet because this is what we got to see:

then a quasi-gross security guard snuck victorious and i into the main room of emo's (we had been at the outdoor stage the whole time) so that we were able to see the fabulous

it was vic's first time seeing them, so that was very special. the shitty thing was though, the security guard (josh) who snuck us in, expected us to repay him (somehow?). unfortunately (fortunately for me) he had a crush on victoria so she had to pretend that she was going to give him a hayjay or something, even though she never ever ever intended on actually doing it.
oh the sacrifices we pretend we're going to make... something we like to call "taking one for the team..."
we quickly went back outside to see

whose set was great, always is. but this time it inspired me to join a band. not as a musician per se, but as a cheer-leading, sweat-drenched dancer. but instead, i would actually stay on the beat.

though we were burnt out and beginning to sober up, sash, vic and i stuck around for department of eagles.

all i gotta say is HOLY SHIT that was the best set i saw all week. (sorry lo)
such beautiful beautiful music.
the only thing i regret is not peeing before their set. i didn't want to lose my place but my weak bladder was a tiny bit distracting. i may have even piddled a teensy bit.

after that show we took off to the caswell house for the annual north by northeast bbq. it's the best party because they have amazing food and free mooseheads available to all canadians, not just the ones with the wristbands (scoff scoff cdn blast bbq).
three or four bands played upstairs in this beautiful mansion but of course i missed all of them.
i was too busy socializing with my fellow canadians, and secretly wondering if jill barber is actually dating grant lawrence, and whether or not steve jordan remembered my sister ripping his shirt off the night before:

after the bbq we went back to our quaint little house to get ready for more. most of the girls showered and napped while i got dragged out to see a girl from nevada city california named
alela diane.

jack the snack looooves her and made it her ultimate goal to see her during sxsw. alela was slotted to play the swanky showcase at the hilton garden inn, quite upscale compared to the other venues in the festival. it changed up the pace which keeps things interesting, however, it also bumped up the door price to $13 USD! that doesn't seem like a lot but it is when you convert it to our shoddy canadian buck. So rather than paying, we decided to peek into the adjacent kitchen to see if it was empty and that way we could sneak through.
it wasn't empty. there were two hotel employees in there cleaning up from, what i'm sure was, a long day. that didn't stop us though. jack simply asked if we could please pass through the kitchen to get to the other side. she was completely honest and told them how badly we wanted to see her but that we didn't want to surrender what seemed like a fortune to the wayside.
they said yes. and even fed us along the way!
we sat front row and though i was pretty drunk by this point, and nearly falling asleep, i can confidently say that she blew me away.
After her set we walked on over to Ms. Bea's to meet up with the other ladies, say hi to todd p. and watch a whole lotta health.

but not before stopping at the corner store to purchase a 12 can case of dos equis. the last time i ventured to ms. bea's (the previous night), i was boozeless, and i vowed to never do that again.
i was pretty bombed while watching health.

which was good cause they kept me on my toes.
that is, until i could be kept on my toes no longer.
i got whisked away by victor and avi to go home and get a head start on ridding my inevitably looming hangover. yes, the fomo (fear of missing out) frightened me, but when i learned that the other lassies went off and saw sam roberts (again) it quickly subsided. though i'm sure i missed out, this is me pretending i didn't.

on day two there were 7 of us girls rarin' to go.
on the flight to austin, laura made a (boy)friend who invited us to a party at red seven.

after that lo sash and i went and hung out with our cousin tim and got some mexican food and margaritas at polvo's... delicious!

after that we went to meet up with our gals at the cedar street courtyard. jackie had arrived. our 8 pack was complete.
laura, our thursday hero, managed to finagle us into the blackberry party where we got to see:

the delta spirit (this was a huge sacrifice for me because it was at this exact time that herman dune was slotted to play at buffalo billiards, missing them is almost one of my least favourite things to do, ever.)

i stayed so that i could see the black lips, because i've never seen them live before. two years ago, sasha, sarah, nichole and i missed them by five minutes at the mink in houston...

and last but certainly not least, we got to see primal scream.
not that i'm a huge fan or anything but it was just cool to be able to see them, even though we were pretty smashed by then...

we then wandered the streets and met up with chris bell (not before laura jumped on the side of an S.U.V. and grinded with it)
i somehow convinced the group to go to ms. bea's so that we could watch herman dune do a ten minute acoustic set at 3.20am.
it was getting close to that time and herman dune wasn't in sight.
i was pretty bummed but my mood changed while watching the ten minute acoustic set of best friends forever

that, and somehow finding a cab at 330 was a beautiful end to our night.

we started off our week by going back to our roots and joining the lovely folks at the canadian blast bbq. the bill included bands i've seen more times than i can count on one hand but still a great show nonetheless...

projet runway dedication

pretty pathetic that this 'blog' is turning into a shitty synopsis of project runway canada BUT i felt the necessity to update considering last night's episode kinda made my last post about it look illegit.

RECENTLY, ON PROJECT RUNWAY CANADA.
hamiltonian jason and shitty bitchface genevieve returned to fight their way back into the competition where they allowed them to do or die in the 'gimme shelter' teams of two battle. the deal was that they couldn't just come in second, they had to win the episode in order to stay on the show. the judges made first place a two way tie, crowning FOUR fucking people as the victors (sunny, jessica, jason and *cringe* genevieve) forcing adejoke and *cringe* kim off the show.

long story short, hamilton's still got a shot!

before:

i don't have a bathmat in my clawfoot tub, but until last sunday, i never really thought about needing one. on that beautiful afternoon, my sister took two of my nieces and i for mani/pedis at the burlington mall. i chose a sweet seafoam green colour nailpolish for my toenails, but of course O.P.I. has the whackest names for their polish so it was called something like: "california hear me?" not actually, but something as dumb as that. i sat in the massage chair and soaked my nasty size 10w feet in the soapy tub, allowing the piss warm water to soften my calloused corny skin. when the esthetician started shaving the dead skin off, her reaction was appalling and i was pretty embarrassed. it took 5 times longer than it normally does, as the mounds of dead skin piled up beside her. (to my [dis]credit, i hadn't had a pedi in over 5 years).

when i got home i hopped in the shower and almost broke my back because the tub was so slippery. i couldn't figure out why until i looked down at my pretty feet and realized that all my dead skin was keeping my grip on the mat-less tub...

i think the gross may outweigh the funny.

Last night as I watched Project Runway Canada with my sister, I cried and cried and cried...

Not just because I have my period.

And not just because the episode focused on women who have survived breast cancer (except one woman who apparently lost her battle after the episode finished filming), but also because our dear contestant JASON MEYERS, who hailed from our great city of Hamilton bit the dust on last night's episode. (Deservedly so, since his dress was hideous)

but still!

movin' IN

I saw Movin' Out last night at Hamilton Place with my grandmother and father. I pretty much forced them to come with me, seeing as no one else would, because i love musicals and i LOVE billy joel. i also adore the movie center stage, and i thought twyla tharp choreographed most of the dances in that film, which could be a total lie. either way, i was excited to see the choreography in the show.

2 out of 3 ain't bad, considering movin' out is NOT a musical.

It's barely even a play.

It's pretty much just a house band that's perched ab

ove the stage on scaffolding playing billy joel songs while 12 or so dancers are moving to the music.

i was pretty pissed at first because i thought it was a huge ripoff. but then i started to appreciate the insanely creative choreography. wicked cool. unfortunately the dancers didn't fully do it justice which is a shame because it was obvious how talented twyla tharp actually is.

the only shitty thing that twyla did was string billy's songs together in order to create a story line (ie. mamma mia!), but unfortunately, it was not only a weak plot but it also didn't really make that much sense.

HOWEVER, the character named emily (i think) was a really great dancer. so great, in fact, that her mother, who was sitting directly in front of us, turned around let us know how great she was every two minutes. she was extremely distracting and annoying.

the showtime momma was super duper crazy... she had a teddy bear with her, presumably to give to her daughter after her show, but during the performance, she was playing with the teddy bear and making it dance on her neighbour's shoulder.

definitely the best part of my night.

I'm a pretty lucky girl to have PVR (personal video recorder), pretty much meaning I never have to miss my favourite shows ever again. There are, however, a couple downfalls to pvr. For example, last night during the oscars, we started watching it about an hour in so that we were able to fast forward the commercials. This was a problem when we reached the end of the recording because the awards went into overtime, as they usually do, and we missed the end. Another downfall to pvr is accidentally taping a program in dv (descriptive video). It's a great device for those who need it, but for those who are not visually impaired, it gets a little redundant.

HOWEVER, recently when I went to watch the most recent episode of project runway canada, i soon realized that i had taped it in Dv. I didn't mind because I was "watching" it while on the computer, allowing me to do both. But during the opening credits, I started to pee myself because this is where the descriptive video became insanely personal and insulting. I couldn't find the dv version on the internet so i'm going to type out the script of how the narrator describes the contestants.

This past fall I watched So You Think You Can Dance Canada semi-religiously, not missing one episode of the top ten contenders... two of which I fell in love with:

Arrasay and Vincent

I secretly pretended they were sleeping together on tour, but then i caught a drift of gay from vincent during one of his routines...

Because I followed the show closely, my dad had to watch the show by default and developed a liking for Lisa, a hip hop-contemporary dancer who made it to the top 6.

Because he's such a wonderful and thoughtful person, my dad decided to buy me two tickets to see SYTYCD when it rolled into town two days ago to Copps Colisseum.

I went with Laura, who would've been swarmed in the parking lot if the other show-goers found out that she wasn't even a fan of the show. (Her favourite dancer is Kaitlyn--shows how much she knows...)

Before it began, we met and walked down to Jackson Square and had a quick bite to eat at the Honest Lawyer... cheesiest bar in Hamilton. But it allowed us to guzzle a pint of beer and shoot an ounce of whiskey before the show, which was necessary.

We got to our seats just as the show began and the 18000 person-arena (not quite sold out, but almost) roared with cheers and fanatical crying. I was so overcome by emotion that I, too, almost started crying. It was an even mix of excitement, anticipation, and complete humiliation. It was really strange.

Here are my 2 cents on the show:

-if you have bad seats, don't bother going... you end up having to watch the dancing on the jumbo-tron, which is comparable to a basketball game, but much worse.

-don't go if you watched the show, because out of about 40 of the routines, i've seen all but 3! THREE!!! only three of the forty dances were new to me.

-the tickets were about $40 (for second tier seating, i can only imagine that first tier and floor seating are priced much higher). this bothered me because their shows are run on an incredibly low budget. (10 dancers, 3 stagehands, 2 lighting guys, and about 7 props)

-the routines were awesome and the dancers were greatly impressive.

-not as impressive, however, as america's best DANCE CREW. that shit is so good.

Last month, on a cold, cold January morning, my dad and I drove from Toronto to Hamilton at 6am to get to the set of Young Rival's first video (for the song: "Your Island") where we participated as extras. It was excruciating at first because of the early hour and cold weather.

That, plus the lack of sleep and the fact that we weren't really needed until 11am.

However, it was a great time and here are the photos from behind the scenes.

The video shoot took all day. I didn't even stay till the end because I had a wedding to get to but it's crazy how long it takes to film a two minute clip.

For some reason the video has been deleted but i will post it as soon as it becomes available again....

Last night was our dear Tori's 21st birthday.

We had a dance party in the lounge of the casbah while the legendary Gob played upstairs.

At the end of the evening, we were waiting outside of the lounge for cabs. At the same time, Gob and their opening band called the Johnstones were loading out their gear. I didn't really think that this would be a problem considering we weren't really in each other's way, UNTIL Joel runs up to the singer of Gob and proceeds to masterbate in mime while making undecipherable noises.

Next thing I know, Joel is shoved right off the step of the lounge platform onto the sidewalk and he lands on his back in the middle of all their equipment. [Granted it was a little obnoxious for Joel to mime masterbate in Gob's face, in no way did it warrant the extremely exaggerated act of physical hostility.] One guy from the Johnstones shouts at him: "DON'T FUCKING TOUCH OUR SHIT" as if he was too dense to realize that he was involuntarily pushed into it. I went to help him up and a huge amp fell on my right foot, landing right on my cuneiform.

(now it's sooo swollen)

After that, the two crowds had a bit of tiff. punches were thrown (unsuccessfully), kicks were kicked, saliva was spit. But it was mostly verbal... Durka and Avi were pretty heated, as they should be. The curly haired asshole from the Johnstones, who I'm pretty sure is friends with my sister, was the biggest cock of them all.

He actually spit on Avi, and it landed on her cheek. Disgusting. I recognized one of the girls from their crew and it was the girlfriend of a guy who works at the casbah. I was trying to stare her down so that she would realize how dumb she should feel for hanging out with those assholes. But instead, when we caught eyes, she shouted: "they're fucking hipsters!" it was quite laughable because it came completely from out of left field. Brodie finally came outside and missed the whole fight but he asked us to leave and said that he would "take care of it"

The bands were yelling at Brodie to yell at us but he had our back and told them to get the fuck outta there or he would call the cops. Not sure if Gob or the Johnstones will be back to the casbah again but i can surely bet that none of us will miss their next show.

I was flipping through the most recent issue of In Touch magazine while I was sitting on the toilet when I found out that Michael C. Hall was recently hitched.

There he was, in the "In Touch with their REAL SIDES" section, walking down the street, with the caption: "They check their Email!"

But what caught my eye wasn't his blackberry, it was the wedding band on his left hand. He married Jennifer Carpenter who plays his sister on DEXTER.

To their credit, they are not blood brother and sister, because Dexter was adopted by Deb's dad. Call me crazy but I also wouldn't be surprised if they even hooked up on the show.

Last night I ventured to Buffalo, NY with 4 of my boy-friends to see Tim and Eric Awesome Show at Town Ballroom.

Greg drove his girlfriend Jenny's van over the border and when we were stopped at customs, he was grilled as to why she didn't come with.

It's crazy how much easier it is to sale across the border when it's a car full of girls rather than boys. The customs officer laid into us for about 10 minutes. For some reason he wanted to know how we all know each other, and we quickly learned that our "we're friends" answer was not good enough. Greg and Mike said that they "work together" as DJs at a restaurant. The customs guy was so skeptical because he "doesn't eat at restaurants with DJs." Then he asked us if we had any dope or narcotics, but then realized we wouldn't admit to it if we did. He finally let us go.

(Last year when we drove to the Buffalo airport to fly to Austin, we had someone in our car who is blacklisted from the States, but we got through customs in under two minutes. It was a breeze.)

The drive last night was pretty shit because of the snowstorm, it took about 2 hours, when it normally only takes 1. We even got lost for a bit but finally realized it would be quicker to park and walk then to keep driving down one way streets. Much to mine and Terris' dismay, we didn't have time to get Buffalo wings from Anchor Bar.

But we finally got to Town Ballroom.

Beautiful venue.

I'd go back there to see a concert in a heartbeat.

Beers were $4, pizza was $2. I was happy.

The show was nothing short of RIDICULOUS and AWESOME. obviously.

I was especially impressed with DJ Douggpound who opened the show.

After the show we went straight back to Hamilton.

Went to 42 Liberty to get stoned and talk about what we just saw.

The conversation kept coming back to the fact that we didn't get wings. So, at 2am, we got desperate and called pizza pizza and ordered 40 wings between 4 of us.

Even though pizza pizza's wings are sick and terrible in comparison to true buffalo wings, they turned out to be outright delicious.

EXXXCITING NEWS! TODAY WAS SOUPFEST, which is always the most scrumptious day of the year. Dallas and I went down to the Convention centre to simultaneously fill up on soup and support a local shelter.

23 local restaurants and catering companies participated in the event.

$10 buys you 4 tickets for 4 oz. bowls of soup.

After perusing through the 23 different booths, you decide which of these fine soups you're going to cash your ticket in for.

If you're good, you can ask for a sample.
and if you're that good, you can convince the booth you will vote for them if they just give you a soup for free.

I was full by the time i spent my last ticket.
Then Dal and I went to vote.

We didn't totally agree on everything, but we also didn't have the same soups either.

Saturday I dyed my hair red. Copper I should say...

I had a pro do it cause I think my hair truly hates me.

Anyway, Saturday night I went out to show off the new look. In the bathroom at the bar, I came out of a stall and a girl commented on my hair, which I always appreciate because girls aren't always the most vocal about compliments. I know a lot are, but a lot aren't too.

This is how our conversation unfolded:

Me: Hate to break it to you, but I dyed it today!

it was on this day, 10 years ago, when i first got my period while waiting to pick up the kids that i babysat for on a biweekly basis.

and now i will share with you my secret pumpkin seed recipe:

spend hours picking the pumpkin seeds out of the pile of shitty pumpkin insides from the pumpkin you just shittily carved:

preheat oven 350f

rinse off seeds.

put in a pan.

add: 4 tbs oil (preferably olive)

add: 5 pinches of basil

add: 4 pinches of oregano

add: 3.5 pinches of rosemary

add: 3.5 pinches of thyme

add: loads of salt

roast for at least one hour.

though, don't neglect, check every 15 minutes, until golden brown:

they're probably done.

mine weren't, they were still chewy.

probably because i could only cook them for 40 minutes.

they were still tasty though.

probably best not to do this at 4 am while stoned.

it's rather time-consuming.

Zack and Miri Make a Porno comes out tomorrow to a theatre near you. I had the pleasure of seeing a sneak peek on Monday because my friend Dallas scored some free passes from the tubular dudes at Y108.

The movie was great, so many laugh my ass off moments. But what Dallas and I didn't love about it was the fact that the dirty comedy was interwoven with a dramatic love story. And maybe it's just me, but I couldn't handle the fact that Seth Rogen was the lead romantic character.

Maybe Kevin Smith should have casted someone less hot in the lead actress' role, because Elizabeth Banks is about 14 levels hotter than Rogen. She also happens to look EXACTLY like rachel mcadams.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for the ugly fat funny guy getting the gorgeous blonde girl, but they didn't make it believable enough for me I guess. And I think the love story aspect of the film partly ruined the comedic part for me, because their awkward 'love' moments made me uncomfortable, when my heart was supposed to be melting.

Either way, the movie was great and Justin Long was fucking outstanding. He's such a good gay.

And Jason Mewes chopped off his hair, highlighted it, and looks incredible! He played an actual porn star in the movie and was so believable. I couldn't believe it was him! He looks younger and hotter and porno-e-er.

Overall, it gets an 8 out of 10...

saturday night ended up being pretty fun...

i missed the last fashion show but instead, we went to the spoke supper club to party with the drunk yuppy crowd of fashion week. my sister amy was there, also drunk and yuppy. she introduced me to robin kay who said to my dad a day earlier, after grabbing his face:

two days ago my dad and i were watching etalk daily to catch up on the latest 'e-sightings.' instead, we watched a clip of the launch of fashion week at the mango show in nathan phillips square. ben mulroney described it as "an uncomfortable and awkward moment when robin kay fumbled for her cue cards as the audience squirmed in their seats."

luckily they showed a clip, where robin is clearly drunk and wobbily. she got escorted off stage by a mango rep.

yesterday I had my re-scheduled appointment with Norah (of Norah Salon and Spa) to do below the waist maintenance.

so i never ended up in sackville.
instead i went to my cottage and got some more injuries to add to the list. my sister took me and my other sister tubing. she tried her best to get us off the tube. she was successful when she made really big waves and then picked up her speed. my head slammed against the weird vinyl/canvas tube material with my mouth open, slicing a cut under my upper lip.

i then fell off the tube while simultaneously kicking my sister in the thigh which is the exact moment i broke my middle toe on my right foot.

a week later i went to wolfe island with my favourite people on earth where i accidentally ate mushrooms and decided i was invincible. michelle and i ripped off our clothes and danced in the rain on a baseball diamond. we then leaped over a fence which is when i busted my shoe and twisted my ankle.

a few days after that i was back in hamilton scrambling to finish a poster when i needed my exacto knife. i ran to my car to get it where it waited for me in a plastic grocery bag. this exacto knife is the kind that doesn't retract and so it being very sharp, cut a hole through the plastic bag, fell and landed on my foot. splurting blood everywhere, i ran into the house to take a picture of it before i took care of the wound.

a day later i cut my left index finger with the very same knife while cutting a piece of linoleum. and two days after that i cut the same index finger

later in june i took a huge spill while riding my bike in toronto. got caught in the fucking streetcar tracks, just like everybody else. it was shitty. my left knee hates me.

and just three nights ago i fell, yet again, in a monotonix mosh pit.

somehow the drum kit ended up on top of me, which is why i currently have track marks on my knockers...

next week, i'm going to wonderland and white water rafting. so should be interesting to see what my next scar will be from.

the other day i was sitting in the window of locke street bagel having a much needed coffee with lo and gill. the time was around 11.30am, when the local elementary school was on lunch/recess.

as a joke, i knocked on the window to get their attention and shook my finger "no-no" at them.

their immediate reaction was to give the finger.

i was taken aback but thought it was funny.

they started walking away across the street but kept turning around to catch my reaction.

so impulsively, i retur

ned the gesture by giving them the finger back.

to my surprise, peter, the owner of the bag

el shop was standing next to me and caught my finger-giving.

i was so embarrassed

. my face immediately turned crimson while trying to explain that they started it.

he blew me off and went back to work behind the counter. i thought he was mad, b

ut when i turned around to apologize, he was already in position, flipping me the bird from across the room.
